Problems With Your System

After you set up your system and begin using it, you may discover that you have a problem of some sort with it. Most PCs are tested before shipping and hardware problems are actually rather atypical. They do happen however, especially since hardware failures are more common within the first 90 days of using the PC than they are after that initial break-in period passes.

In this section I discuss issues related to handling problems with your system after you start using it. This includes a discussion of how to handle a dead PC or defective components, how to return items to a vendor or manufacturer, how to obtain technical support, and how to handle a warranty claim on your PC.

Note: I do not discuss order issues in this area; I consider those to be part of the ordering process, and discuss them here. Order issues include lost or missing items, late shipments and so on.
