Im using a BEFW11S4 Linksys wireless + 4 port router and xp home with a LNE 10/100 nic.

The XP client optains a DHCP address from the router and reports 100mbps signal. When I connect to the internet another network properties icon appears (in system tray)and reports a 3.2mbps internet connecton.?

Is this normal? My internet connection is an ADSL PPOE SBC account.
I seem to be getting the same connection speed as when going direct from nic to dsl modem.....I only got a single system tray icon before.

Not sure what your NIC is and can't be bothered to look for it... is it wireless or wired? I assume wired, because you are getting 100 mbps.

I'm not sure if this is normal, we don't get that on our wireless lan here, although we aren't using XP.

In any case, it sounds like it isn't too much of a problem - at least you know that you are connected :)

What speed is your DSL line?

it is normal for winXP to showevery connection that is active. To change this behavior, go to- start-> connect to-> show all connections.

There, right click on the new connection showing , left click on properties-> and under the General TAB, UNcheck where it states "Show icon in notification area when connected"
