MailWasher just came out with a new free version 2.0.40. IF you are using multiple email accounts, be aware that this free version only supports ONE account. The new PRO (paid) version supports multiple accounts.
The full list of differences is listed at www.mailwasher.net.
Stick with the older free version if you have multiple e-mail accounts--and don't want buy the paid version.

Thanks Tommy
I have downloaded the updated version and never noticed that. Have not it installed it yet though, but as I have multiple accounts I won't. Thanks for the heads up ;)

As I said in my prior thread about this, if you are already a registered user, you can download the new version for free and it is nice.

If you have the old version and install the new one, it will automatically replace the one you have, but you will only be able to use it on one mailbox unless you have registered...

Personally I really hate it when a software company releases a product as "freeware" then, when it has gained a following, starts charging for it. I don't object to paying for shareware, in fact I have registered and paid for many products. But I think developers should be straight-up: if he/she/they want to make money, then apply the appropriate licensing and charge a fee from the start.

sleddog,
I think if that were somehow made a rule, you wouldn't see much freeware anymore. I think most people who develop a program have some hope of making money on it someday and, when it is successful, I am never suprised when they start insisting that they be paid. I suspect Spybot and other similar programs will all eventually start charging something. It takes a lot of time and energy to maintain these programs.
Mailwasher is one of the few programs that I have found that I opted to pay for registration early on. I use it daily and I believe it has saved me from a barrage of SPAM and a few virus infections.
PepiMK has some pretty good ideas about this, his version of Spybot will always be free, but he is licensing the technology (with some pretty strict terms) to third party companies who can use it to make paid for versions.
One of the problems is the cost of bandwidth. When a program becomes immensely popular, like MailWasher, the cost of providing the downloads become prohibitive. HijackThis started out on Geocities, and it would be down after about a week at the start of each month, exceeding the monthly allotment for bandwidth.
