Hi people,

Can anyone recommend a freeware version of AntiTrojan software. MJC has a nice useful page of links but the trojan stuff is all pay stuff indicating that there probably isn't any freeware stuff about, thats worth using.

Please advise

SwatIt (http://swatit.org/download.html) has a free version.

Another program you might like to try is a squared Available from HERE (http://www.a-2.org/en/software/free/)

New, but seems good.

Unfortunately, that is the way of the AT world...small number of players.

Swatit is very basic and I would not rely on it for a primary AT product.

A-squared is finally out......sheesh that took longe enough... :D

So, what's the preliminary judgement on a^2? I use NAV CE (active) backed up by AVG free (not active, just the occasional scan), Zone-Alarm free, Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D - all on 98SE.

Is this something I need?

I remember having used at one time a Trojan detector which I think was very good and which was freeware (or shareware with a trial period).
I can't remember its name, but I think it was a 3-character acronym with a T in it...
It had lots of options.

TDS-3 and it has a trial period, and is on my list...Trojan-Hunter is also very good and has a trial period.

A-squared seems to be ok...the free version is on demand only and not very configurable. The $30 version offers background/realtime scanning and very customizable scans. And some other tools.

mjc,

Are you going to add a-squared to your lists of apps?

Corrupted downloads are often a sign of an overloaded server...the release announcement has hit some pretty popular websites, so I would say give it a day or so and try again.

And yes, it is getting added, but I will probably wait another day or so, I am playing with it now.

I got it downloaded, tried it. Mine is clean, maybe I can find a computer to test it...does Remote Access Trojan get caught by this program?

There are over 18,000 items in its database.....so I imagine it would catch a RAT or two...

Just be patient.....

Yes, it seems to be server overload. Only time will cure the problem.

When you initiate a download and start receiving it, there normally are very short pauses in the download. When the server is extremely loaded it is possible that when the pause resumes it picks where someone else left off, or it just doesn't pick up again....you get booted out of the que. Hence, the corrupted download.

If at first you do not succeed! Patience is a virtue.
:D
Thanx MJC:cool:
