question previous mb was 2.8ghz northwood ..New Cpu p4 3.0ghz Prestcot... Prestcot temps are obviously higher temps but what would you consider normal .. My idle is CPU 57C Sys 30C & about CPU 66C Sys 34C when under benchmark load .... 3.0ghx Prestcot , 400w PSU .. 1gb ram .. 160 gb Western hd 7,200.. dvd, cdrw , fd , MB- MSI- 865PE NEO2-P 6728... 2 side fans 1 fan at rear .... I used my old heat sink ..perhaps new one would benefit

That's a bit on the warm side, but not surprising from a Prescott. First of all, see if your mobo needs a BIOS update for the Prescott core revision (some do).
Next, what sort of thermal grease are you using? How did you re-do the heatsink for the new CPU? Is your heatsink the stock one that came with the old CPU? There are ways to keep that thing cool, but they might be expensive. ;)
