Ok I researched other sites, and I am trying to fix my wireless connection. This is basically what the deal is. I have time warner cable with dsl. I also have a netgear router that o got with my dell laptop. Basically i created a network through my desktop so i can connect wirelessly from my laptop. It worked, great. Eventually my desktop was not working and I removed it. My wireless network still worked fine with laptop for over a year. Until recently my wireless connection has not been working. Sometimes it would connect but it would be poor and not work. Whatever the reason is it is not recieving the proper amount of packets. I tried moving the router away from my phone and the modem. I disconnected all the wires from the the modem and router and it has not worked. I have no idea what to do. The only way I connect is when I plug in the ethernet cord into my laptop.

Have you tried power cycling the router? Try removing power from the router for approximately 30 seconds, then plug back in again. You would want to remove the laptop before power cycling. Then, see if you can connect wirelessly...

Nope didn't work don't know what else to do.
Have you tried changing the channel on the router?

I am assuming that your Netgear router is different then your DSL modem. If so, try powering both down for at least 3-5 minutes. Power up the modem to full connection, all lights either on or blinking appropriately, then power up the router to full connection, then laptop.
With all of that said (and after re-reading your post) it sounds like your wireless link is simply failing as you said you can connect wired. Try the above and if no success, I would simply redo your wireless setup with your router. It may be possible that your router or wireless device is going south. Are there consistent time frames involved (goes off for a few minutes then comes on for a few minutes) or is it completely random? By what means have you determined "not recieving the proper amount of packets."?

It worked for "over a year"? Sounds like a dead wireless router to me. Buy a new one.

One of the two major causes for sudden loss of wireless...I mentioned the other one, sort of...something new in the area (of the router) that is causing major interference on the selected channel (and probably the channels on either side of that one, too--unless channel 1 is the current channel).
One of the things we tend to do here, is start with the cheap/simple approach first and work up the chain...

Eh, probably true, but I'm just saying, after he goes through the diagnostic steps, buy a new router. ;)

And I'm agreeing...
I've seen enough wireless routers fail in the radio department but still have basic wired functions to know that there comes a time when replacement is the best option...
Ooops...I noticed, that I left off part of my post. The next line should read: Now is the time to start looking for a replacement, like lespaul_rentals said.

Yup, I've got one in my room that is acting as a switch. The WLAN function is dead, though.

I would suggest one attempt to update/reload the firmware on the router, if it does not work it is time to purchase a new one.
The good news is the new one will likely be better and less expensive than the last one.
