When i try to access the c:\ in my computer it pops down a display box to choose a program to open.
I ran virus check nothing appeared, a friend of mine suggested it could be virus or a worm from Flash drives ( i use flash drives very often).
I also ran flash disinfector.exe application but the application is not responding.
Please help.
Thanks

Seems like your registry is messed up.
Do you have any means to restore a good copy of the registry that matches your present software/hardware setup?
e.g. Any image backups of the Windows partition that you can restore?
[That would restore a matching set of registry & software]
If you really think the PC is infected you should post a thread in the "Applications & Security" forum.
Use Regedit to check the "HKCR\Directory" key [see screenshot below of my own].
How does yours look?
Here is the content of my own "Directory" key in Win2000Pro...
I exported the contents of the key to a reg file and renamed the extension to txt and uploaded it here.
Your own key should probably be similar but different to suit your own particular software.
You could export your own key and compare the two [using a file comparison program perhaps].

Try these steps first:
1) Run the command prompt. (start-> run-> type "cmd")
2) Type:
C: dir /a/p
3) Check if there is a file named autorun.inf
4) Then type:
attrib autorun.inf -s -h -r
5) Next, type:
del autorun.inf ( or you can rename it by giving it a different extension. Type "rename autorun.inf autorun.renamed".)
6) Restart your computer and you should be able to access your C drive. Please note that the virus is still there just disabled. Try the steps below for a cleaner fix, your mileage may vary :)
A more detailed clean up here:

Good Luck :)
