So here is my story. I have an old Toshiba Satellite 4600 Pro. Windows XP. I am trying to stream SlingPlayer (TV, Tivo) to this laptop through my Linksys G network. It has a built in wireless B card which I have found is too slow to stream without the choppies. So I want to upgrade to a wireless G adapter (like the Linksys WUSB54GP). Problem is that my PC slots (PCMCIA) are broken. So my only option is USB. Well, this old laptop does not have the USB 2.0 ports, only the older 1.1 versions. So the question is do USB 1.1 ports have enough throughput that I can realize the gains of a wireless G adapter over my current wireless B?
I'm not sure that your 'choppies' are caused by the speed of the network...wireless B should be fast enough (or almost so).
What are the full specs of your laptop...CPU spee/RAM/etc.
There is a good chance that you have some other sort of bottleneck that is causing the choppiness and no network card will fix that.
Even at 54meg streaming video may be choppy
it all depends on the server and the amount of network traffic
That USB nic will work
But video will be choppy using the usb 1.1
It is choppy even with 2.0
But again it all depends on the server and the amount of traffic
With wifi it also depends on range and interference ( other networks and devices) even the trusted cordless phone and microwave will interfere 2.4Ghz
