My nephew used this computer to play online games about a week ago. My daughter normally uses it and didn't tell me she was having problems with popups. I've done some preliminary file checking and I've found pp12.exe, freddy64.exe, mstre22.exe - so I know I've got problems. I'll post the HJT log, just point me in the right direction to fix the problems. BTW, I tried to install Spybot S&D, but got insufficient system resources, or a message similar to that.

Thanks for all help.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Post new HJT log.

Crunchie,
Thanks for replying. I was unable to install Malware Bytes or Spybot S&D - I received the same error regarding creating registry keys. So I've restored the system to 2 days before, and then was able to install and run Malware Bytes and Spybot. I corrected what they flagged and then installed Avast (the NIS had expired the week before) and ran a boot virus check and fixed what it flagged. Everything seems to be clean and running fine at this point. When my daughter gets back with the computer, I'll run another check and post the logs. But I think I've got it fixed. BTW, the problem wasn't caused my nephew and online games, it was my daughter clicking a link for a video on Facebook. She's been re-educated about the dangers in that.

Thanks for everyone's help and posting in other threads that pointed me in the right direction last week.

Kim

You should post the MBAM log and the Avast log and a new HJT log to make sure it's gone. It may only be suppressed....
