Raspberry Pi Connect now reaches all models, allowing remote access for everyone

Raspberry Pi Connect, a software tool that allows remote shell access to your Raspberry Pi device, has expanded its reach to encompass all Raspberry Pi boards. This means no matter which model you own, whether it’s the latest Raspberry Pi 5 or an older model, you can now connect to it remotely.

Previously, Raspberry Pi Connect was limited to the Raspberry Pi 5, Raspberry Pi 4, and Raspberry Pi 400, and required them to be running a 64-bit version of Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm. This update removes those restrictions.

What exactly is Raspberry Pi Connect?

For those unfamiliar, Raspberry Pi Connect offers a convenient way to interact with your Raspberry Pi without physically requiring the device in question. This is particularly useful for situations where your device is located in a difficult-to-reach location or for managing multiple devices remotely.

The remote access provided by Raspberry Pi Connect is secure, requiring you to confirm your ID for connection. Additionally, the software integrates seamlessly with the Raspberry Pi OS, eliminating the need for additional setup tools. For users with newer Raspberry Pi models running a Wayland compositor like Wayfire, screen sharing is now also an option.

Bright future for RasPi Connect

This update breathes new life into older Raspberry Pi models by providing them with remote access capabilities. However, the potential benefits extend far beyond simple device refresh. Remote access opens doors for increased productivity and project management possibilities.

The future of Raspberry Pi Connect appears bright. According to Gordon Hollingworth, Raspberry Pi CTO, there’s a roadmap for future improvements aimed at enhancing the software’s usefulness. While priorities will be determined, file transfer functionality seems to be high on the list and could be included in a future update.

This wider availability of Raspberry Pi Connect, coupled with the promise of future enhancements, signifies a significant step forward for users. The ability to remotely access and manage devices across the board empowers makers and hobbyists to unlock the full potential of their projects.
